Motor racing is a thrilling sport that captivates hearts and imaginations the world over, but when it spills out from legitimate racing tracks and venues, onto public streets, then it becomes a real problem. You then get drivers without any training, discipline or experience whatsoever, throwing around extremely high powered motor vehicles, on the self-same roads that normal everyday drivers are using to go about their daily business. This can only really result in one thing, and that one thing is not at all desirable.
Professional motor racing circuits and venues provides a safe and controlled place for racers, which are clear of bystanders and other road users, so as to minimize the danger and prevent any casualties. On the other hand, street racers do very little to ensure that their proposed race course is clear of innocent bystanders before going ahead with their illegal racing event. Many street races are unplanned events, are spontaneous, or at best loosely coordinated, using such technologies as GPS systems, police scanners and two-way radios to track the movements of police, and avoid detection. This gives members of the public little chance to avoid the areas the racers use.
